Extensive Renovation and Cleaning of a Cruise Ship in Brest, France
The challenge
Damen Shipyard in Brest, France, faced a major task with one of their cruise ships that needed to have the old paint complete stripped before applying a new paint system. This process was necessary to ensure the ship’s long-term maintenance and protection from the harsh maritime environment.
The solution
For this critical job, Mamoba was chosen to perform the cleaning thanks to our advanced technology and expertise in marine industrial cleaning. We used the highly efficient UHP robots, Dockboy and Madeboy 26000M2, which are specifically designed for jobs of this scale and complexity.
Advanced UHP Cleaning
With the UHP (Ultra High Pressure) Dockboy and Madeboy robots, we were able to effectively remove all the old paint and prepare the ship’s surface for new paint work. These robots provided an intensive but gentle cleaning process that removed the paint and returned the ship’s steel to bare steel in just 5 days.
Environmental Manager Waste Management
Throughout the cleaning process, all lead-based paint and contaminated water was carefully handled to minimise environmental impact. All lead water was treated through an advanced ‘re protex’ water system to ensure it could be discharged in an environmentally sound manner. The solid mass of lead paint was also transported and disposed of in accordance with strict environmental standards at an environmentally authorised landfill site.
The result
The result of Mamoba’s efforts was a complete transformation of the cruise ship. The ship was now ready for a new coat of paint, which not only improves its aesthetics and function, but also significantly extends its service life. This project demonstrates the effectiveness of Mamoba’s advanced technology and our commitment to environmental responsibility.
Mamoba’s Commitment
This project is an excellent example of Mamoba’s capacity to handle large and complex industrial jobs with a high degree of professionalism and environmental awareness. Our use of advanced technology and strict waste management procedures ensure that we provide sustainable solutions that fulfil both technical requirements and environmental obligations.
